Kaolin is used extensively in the ceramic industry, where its high fusion temperature and white burning characteristics makes it particularly suitable for the manufacture of whiteware (China), porcelain, and refractories.
Mineral sands have a wide application in the pigments industry as well as ceramics, glazes and in chemicals, metal production and as cleaning or sandblasting agents.
While some of the Rare Earths are not traded commercially or are limited to laboratory research, new applications for these materials will continue to emerge in the future driven by technological advances.
